Hola!
This week has been great. We had zone training, and Hna DeBry and I went on exchanges. I went with Hna McMillan to her area, and Hna Moberly came to our area. I got to see Axel and Eder, some of the Spanish programs most famous recent converts! Eder has really nice sports cars and he let me sit in the drivers seat and turn it on...which is a big deal-- that car is like his child! Unfortunately, I didn't get the picture from Hna McMillan yet, so you will have to imagine in your minds the image of me driving a sweet sports car until next week.
I finally learned how to make some Hispanic food! One of the members invited us over to come make pupusas. Now I just need to learn how to make tortillas, valiadas and salteñas and I'll be set! Oh and Pico a lo macho. Man, I love Hispanic food!
We have awesome investigators right now, we have Maggie, whose only concern about being baptized is that she is not ready (and she hasn't come to church yet), Katherine who is a sweetheart and is totally ready to get baptized, and we just found another awesome family, the dad, Rafael, is sooo smart and understands everything so quickly! Pray for them!
Hispanic fact of the week: Lots of the Hispanic doors we knock on still have their Christmas decorations up.
This week we are going to focus on getting more people to church, because that is one thing that we really struggle with. We have great investigators, but we can't get them to come! So this morning during studies, I made a list of reasons Why we go to church...
-To strengthen out faith and be nourished my the word of God (Moroni 6:4, Romans 10:17)
-To take the sacrament/remember Christ/be clean/renew covenants (D&C 20:75, Moroni 6:6, D&C 59:9)
-To feel the spirit (Matthew 18:20, Acts 4:31, Mosiah 25:24)
-To obey the commandments (Exodus 20:8, Alma 6:6)
-To show love and gratitude to God (John 14:15, Mosiah 18:23)
-To serve others (alma 6:6, Mosiah 18:21,29)
-To fast, pray, and pay tithing (Nephi 9:1, Alma 6:6)
-To receive council from our leaders and support and strength in our trials (Mosiah 2:1, 18:21-29, D&C 43:17)
-To rest from your labor sand the world (D&C 59:10)
-To learn of God and Christ
-To receive revelation and answers to prayers
This is not an all inclusive list, I just started to work on it, so any suggestions would be great!
Hermana Peabody
Well, my mouth was watering just reading her list off the food she'd like to learn to make! Me too--but would rather the "professionals" just make it, and I just eat it! Maybe Ashley will be a "professional" by the time she returns.
I love her reasons to attend church and the scriptural references to back it up! Oh so true and ALL to our benefit!
Enjoy this weeks photos, including the cute one with the huge dog--she loves dogs. Ashley got another yummy birthday gift from our good friend Lisa Sipple--thanks for sending, and one more cute photo of Ashley and Hermana Debry at the Washington Monument last week! Can't wait until we get to see the photo of her in the sports car--next week!!
